Insomnia

Interno Notte

New production by Teatro nelle Foglie
1 idea, 1 bed, 4 actors on stage, 7 doors, 200 pillows

The idea

To submerge the audience in the folds of the tumultuous mind of a tormented character, in an eternal night, suspended between sleep, limbo and the afterlife.

To stage the inner struggle of someone who faces his nightmares floating in insomnia, with the desecrating lightness of the clown.

Narration without words, expressive movements, images suspended between symbolism and metaphor, and a dynamic, living set design that also becomes a character in the story. It is a performance with strong visual and emotional impact.

Interno Notte invites spectators to experience the complexity of the human mind in an enthralling journey, putting themselves at stake in the first person.

The entrance to the show is conceived through the stage, where the doors of the mobile stage set will be arranged to create a labyrinthine corridor that the audience will cross to go and sit in their seats, disrupting orientation and habit, and representing the complex and twisted paths that the thought of a restless mind draws.

Each spectator will find a pillow waiting for him or her, to identify with the protagonist, accompanied by their pillow in the perennial attempt to fall asleep. A pillow that becomes a seat, blanket, mirror, enemy, cloud, dream and even weapon, in a pillow battle between spectators and actors. On stage 3 actors-acrobats-machinists constantly change the reality surrounding the protagonist, the clown, the self.

An antique, unhinged bed deforms like the mind of someone who has lost the compass of reason. A rotating platform, a centrifuge of emotions. Doors of all shapes and sizes, moving, rising, taking flight. They become danceable vertical superceilings for dancers who change perspective. They become enemies looming over the protagonist, or shelters ready to welcome him. A lo of steel stretched between stage and audience, almost the thin line dividing reality from imagination, traversed in an equilibrium that is an eternal quest for balance.
